An apostille from the Dutch courts on an official document

An apostille is an official certificate that confirms the authenticity of a signature, seal or stamp on a public document so it is recognised abroad. The Netherlands applies the Hague Apostille Convention, and the Dutch courts (De Rechtspraak) issue the apostille. A foreign document used here often needs a sworn translation as well.

Frequently asked questions

What is an apostille in simple words?
An apostille is an official certificate added to a public document. It confirms that the signature, seal or stamp on the document is genuine, so the document is accepted in other countries that have joined the Hague Apostille Convention without any further legalisation.
What is the purpose of the apostille?
An apostille gives you a single, internationally recognised verification that replaces the older chain of embassy legalisation between member countries. It confirms where the document comes from and that the official who signed it was authorised to do so. It does not check or certify the content of the document itself.
How much does an apostille cost in the Netherlands?
The Dutch courts charge a statutory fee per document for the apostille itself. If you order through us, the apostille is an optional add-on at €99 per document, all-in, with the court fee and the court application included. For the current statutory court fee, see De Rechtspraak.
How quickly can I get an apostille?
Our standard delivery is 5-7 working days. If you need it sooner, express (2-3 working days, +50%, minimum €55) and same-day (+100%, minimum €75, Dutch to English or French only, ordered before 12:00) are available as options in the order form.
What is the difference between apostille and legalisation?
An apostille is the simplified, one-step verification used between countries that have joined the Hague Apostille Convention. Consular legalisation is the longer route for countries outside the convention, where a ministry and then the relevant embassy or consulate each confirm the document. Which one you need depends on the destination country.
