What Is a Certified Document Translation?
A certified document translation is an official translation of a document, produced by a translator sworn before a Dutch court and entered in the Rbtv (Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators). The translator declares under oath that the translation is a faithful rendering of the original. Every certified translation carries an official statement of accuracy, the sworn translator's signature, an official stamp and the Rbtv registration number for verification.
Dutch government bodies such as the IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service), gemeenten, courts and educational institutions require foreign documents to be sworn-translated. A certified translation is also almost always required to use Dutch documents abroad. The Rbtv was established by the Ministry of Justice and Security and safeguards the quality of sworn translators in the Netherlands.
Which document do you want translated?
We offer certified translations of more than 102 different types of document, grouped into 8 categories. Below is an overview of the most requested documents per category.
Municipality & Civil Status
These are the most-translated documents: birth, marriage and death certificates and Personal Records Database (BRP) extracts. They are needed for immigration, naturalisation, notice of marriage and registration with the gemeente. Prices start from €39 per page for common language pairs.
Education & Diplomas
Diplomas, transcripts, certificates of achievement and certificates are often sworn-translated for recognition by universities abroad, Nuffic (credential evaluation), DUO and employers. Foreign diplomas to be used in the Netherlands must also be sworn-translated.
Notarial & Legal
Notarial deeds, wills, powers of attorney, court judgments and summonses require accurate legal translation. Our translators specialise in legal terminology and know the specific requirements of courts and notaries. The delivery time for legal documents is usually 3-7 working days because of their complexity.
Business & Chamber of Commerce
Business Register (KvK) extracts, articles of association, employment contracts and annual accounts are regularly translated for company registration abroad, international partnerships and banking purposes. A KvK extract often also needs an apostille for use abroad.
Identity & Immigration
Passports, driving licences, Certificates of Conduct (VOG) and residence permits are translated for the IND, embassies abroad and government services. The VOG is one of the most requested documents for employees going abroad.
