If you study or work abroad, the institution often asks for a diploma with an apostille. Dutch educational documents go through two steps: DUO first legalises the original diploma or grade list, then the court places the apostille. You arrange the DUO legalisation and send the legalised document to us; we handle the apostille and return everything.
How does it work?
From order to an apostilled document: we take every step off your hands.
You place your order and choose the destination country.
You have DUO legalise your original diploma or grade list and send the legalised document to our intake address.
We present the document to the court and have the apostille added.
You receive the apostilled document back by registered post, and digitally as well if you want that.
How your document reaches us
You send the original document to our intake address, or have the issuing authority deliver it there directly. Once it reaches us, we present it to the court on your behalf.
Diplomas and grade lists must first be legalised by DUO before the court places an apostille. Allow for extra turnaround time: at a DUO desk (by appointment) the legalisation is ready on the spot, by post it takes up to three weeks.
Frequently asked questions
Why does DUO have to legalise the diploma first?
The court does not know the signatures on diplomas. DUO first legalises the original diploma or grade list; the court can then place the apostille. This only works for programmes recognised by the Dutch Ministry of Education (OCW).
What does the DUO legalisation cost?
€6 per educational document. If you apply by post, DUO charges a one-off €10 administration fee per application. You pay these costs to DUO directly.
How fast does DUO legalise?
At a desk (by appointment, in Amsterdam, Groningen or Rotterdam) the legalisation is ready on the spot. By post, processing takes up to three weeks.
Do a diploma and grade list count as one document?
No, they are two documents. Each needs its own DUO legalisation and its own apostille, so you order two documents.
Can I use the digital extract from Mijn diploma's?
No. DUO only legalises the original paper diploma or grade list on the institution's paper. Digital extracts cannot be apostilled.
