Why have a sworn translation of your Certificate of Conduct (VOG) made?
A sworn certificate of conduct (vog) translation is legally recognised and accepted by all Dutch and international authorities. Our RBTV-certified translators deliver your translation with the official statement, stamp and signature — ready to use straight away for your application.
What authorities require
A certified translation makes the content of your VOG readable and official in the target language. An apostille is a separate certificate, issued by a Dutch court (De Rechtspraak), that confirms the authenticity of the signature on the document for use abroad. They are complementary steps, not alternatives. For use in another country you often need both. Under the Hague Apostille Convention, an apostille is what allows the receiving country to recognise your VOG and its sworn translation without further legalisation. The order in which the apostille and the translation are placed depends on the receiving authority, so check their instructions before you order, or ask us and we will advise.
Practical tips from our experts
- Upload a clear scan or photo of your issued VOG and choose the language pair and any options.
- Receive a fixed quote and confirm your order, with the price set before any work begins.
- A sworn translator produces the translation and adds the signed statement and official stamp.
- Receive your translation as a PDF and, if you choose, a printed copy by registered post.
When do you need a certified translation of your Certificate of Conduct (VOG)?
You need a certified (sworn) translation when an authority outside the Netherlands asks for your Certificate of Conduct (VOG) in their own language and will only accept a translation with legal standing. A foreign employer, an immigration service abroad or a professional registration body often requires one for a work permit, a visa or a licence to practise.
The VOG is the statement of good conduct
The VOG is the statement of good conduct that Justis issues on behalf of the Ministry of Justice and Security. You apply for it through Justis or your gemeente, and we translate it once it has been issued. The translation is produced by an Rbtv-registered sworn translator, which is what makes it valid for official use.
What our certified Certificate of Conduct (VOG) translation includes
You receive the translation bound to a copy of your VOG, together with the sworn translator's signed statement of accuracy and official stamp. The base price covers the translation, the sworn statement, the official stamp and our acceptance guarantee.
- If a foreign authority rejects a translation we produced on quality grounds, we correct it at no charge until it is accepted. Shipping, a digital copy and an apostille are separate options, set out below.
Certified translation versus apostille: what is the difference?
A certified translation makes the content of your VOG readable and official in the target language. An apostille is a separate certificate, issued by a Dutch court (De Rechtspraak), that confirms the authenticity of the signature on the document for use abroad. They are complementary steps, not alternatives.
The Netherlands
A sworn translation of your certificate of conduct (vog) by an Rbtv-registered translator is accepted by Dutch authorities such as the IND and municipalities.
Abroad
For use in another country the receiving authority often also requires an apostille under the Hague Apostille Convention, or legalisation for countries outside it.
What does a sworn translation of a Certificate of Conduct (VOG) cost?
A sworn translation of your certificate of conduct (vog) starts from €39 per page. The exact price depends on the language combination and the number of pages. Upload your document for an instant quote — including the sworn statement, official stamp and signature.
A sworn translation of your certificate of conduct (vog) is often required for official procedures abroad. Our RBTV-registered translators deliver translations that are legally recognised and accepted by every government authority, both in the Netherlands and internationally.
The Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (RBTV) is the official Dutch quality register. Only translators who meet strict quality requirements and are sworn in at the court may register. This guarantees that your translation meets the highest quality standards.

Apostille recommended
For use of your certificate of conduct (vog) outside the EU, we recommend requesting an apostille. Frequently Asked Questions about Certificate of Conduct (VOG) Translation
Answers to the most common questions
Only a translator who has been sworn before a Dutch court and entered in the Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv), kept by Bureau Wbtv, may produce one. That translator binds the translation to a copy of your VOG and adds a signed statement and official stamp, which is why authorities accept it.
The IND accepts documents in Dutch, English, French or German, so a Dutch VOG often needs no translation for them. If your certificate of good conduct was issued abroad in another language, the IND requires a sworn (Rbtv) translation into one of those four languages. Our translation meets that requirement.
From €39 for the first page for Dutch to English or French, and €59 for other languages. Each following page is €75, and a VOG is usually one page. That price covers the translation, the sworn statement, the official stamp and the acceptance guarantee. A digital copy (€9.95), registered shipping (€9.95, free from €299) and an apostille (€99 per document) are optional.
Standard delivery is 5 to 7 working days at no extra charge. If you need it sooner, express (2 to 3 working days, +50%, minimum €55) or same-day (+100%, minimum €75, Dutch to English or French only, ordered before 12:00) are available as options in the order form.
For use abroad you often need both. The sworn translation makes the content official in the target language, and the apostille, issued by a Dutch court under the Hague Apostille Convention, confirms the document's authenticity. The receiving authority sets the order in which they are placed. We can arrange the apostille for €99 per document alongside the translation.
