Foreign pension funds and insurers regularly ask for a certificate of life with an apostille. This international civil-status document (Dutch/French), called the attestatie de vita, is issued to you in person at your municipality's desk and is ready on the spot. You then send it to us; we arrange the apostille at the court and the return shipment.

Frequently asked questions
Can someone else collect the attestatie for me?
No. You must appear at the municipal desk in person; this cannot be done by proxy, because the municipality has to establish that you are alive. We can only handle the apostille step for you.
What does the attestatie cost at the municipality?
Around €17.80, and the desk issues it while you wait. If you bring a letter from your pension fund, the issue is often free of charge.
Is this the same as the Dutch proof of being alive?
No. The domestic proof of being alive is not accepted abroad. Foreign authorities need the international attestatie de vita, drawn up in Dutch and French.
How recent does the attestatie need to be?
Pension funds usually require a recent issue. Collect the attestatie only shortly before you order.
